RVs and Travel Trailers

At BOB HOWARD INSURANCE.COM we can insure more than just an RV with a Progressive RV
policy — motor home insurance, travel trailer insurance and camper insurance are available, too.
With a Progressive RV policy, you can protect whatever type of recreation vehicle you have so you
can spend your time traveling — and enjoying it.

What’s the Difference Between RVs and Travel Trailers?

Motor Homes

Motor Home insurance covers recreation vehicles that provide you with temporary living quarters and are permanently attached to a
chassis or van.

Conventional Motor Home — Class A

  • Constructed around a specifically designed motor vehicle frame and chassis with one single living compartment.
  • Sidewall frame may be wood, aluminum tube or steel.
  • Exterior may be aluminum, fiberglass sheet or molded fiberglass.
  • Ranges from 21 to 45 feet.
  • Typically sleeps up to 10 people.
  • Most luxurious and expensive type of motor home.
  • Virtual “home away from home” on wheels, fully loaded and equipped for short trips, lengthy vacations and full-timing.
  • Models may include washer/dryer, satellite dish, VCR, security system, etc.

Travel Trailers and Campers

Travel trailer insurance and camper insurance provide coverage for nonmotorized, portable units designed to provide you with living
quarters for recreational and camping use. Travel trailers and campers do not require special highway permits when towed. Click

A fifth-wheel trailer has the following characteristics:

  • Similar to the conventional model, but has a raised forward section above a fifth wheel coupling device, creating a unique bilevel dimension.
  • Ranges from 21 to 38 feet in length.
  • Using a truck to tow allows for trailer designs up to 38 feet in length.
  • Specially designed devices are generally mounted to pickup beds.
  • Built on a welded steel chassis.
  • Contains luxuries such as a large living area, all appliances, and bathing, cooking and sleeping facilities.

Conventional Trailer

A conventional trailer has the following characteristics:

  • Designed for vacation/camping use.
  • Ranges from 12 to 40 feet in length.
  • Towed by an automobile or truck with a bumper hitch.
  • Equipped with bathing, cooking and sleeping facilities.
  • May have additional options such as air conditioning and awnings.

Pop-Up Tent Trailer

A pop-up tent trailer has the following characteristics:

  • Constructed with collapsible sidewalls that fold or slide down for easy towing by a light vehicle.
  • Typically less than 12 feet long; ranges from 15 to 23 feet (when opened).
  • Compact size allows for quick setup at destination.
  • Very basic with few luxuries.
  • Larger unit may contain a refrigerator, stove and/or furnace, and may sleep up to eight people

Trailer with Recreational Cargo Quarters

A trailer with recreational cargo quarters has the following characteristics:

  • These are specific types of travel trailers or fifth-wheel trailers.
  • Must have a special compartment in the back to transport horses, ATVs, etc.

Mounted Truck Camper

A mounted truck camper has the following characteristics:

  • Designed as temporary vacation camping unit that is loaded onto a pickup truck bed.
  • Ranges from 18 to 21 feet in length.
  • Typically sleeps up to six people.
  • Compact size makes the truck camper versatile, manageable and convenient for local travel to and from campsite.
  • Easy, economical way for many first-timers to begin RVing.
